GENERAL INTRODUCTION:
Bharatpur, also known as the ‘Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan,’ was founded in 1733 AD by Maharaja Suraj Mal and was once an impregnable walled city carved out of the Mewat region. Bharatpur, Deeg, and Dholpur have all played significant roles in Rajasthan’s history. The city was given the name Bharatpur after Lord Rama’s brother Bharat, whose other brother Laxman was worshipped as the Bharatpur family god.
