GENERAL INTRODUCTION:

PUSHKAR, also known as the ‘Pilgrim City,’ is a beautiful town 14 kilometers from Ajmer. The Nag Pahar (Snake Mountain), which is part of the Aravali hills and is known for its temples and lake, is located between Ajmer and Pushkar. The road from Ajmer to Pushkar is a fascinating trip, as it snakes through the Nag Pahar on its way to the ancient lake of Pushkar. The town, which is built around a magnificent lake, is surrounded on three sides by hills, and on the fourth side by sands that have migrated from the Marwar plains.

It is one of Hinduism’s most revered destinations, known as Tirth Raj or “King of Pilgrimages,” just as Kashi (Banaras) is their “guru” or teacher. No Hindu pilgrimage to Badri Nath (Himalayas), Jagannath (Orissa), Rameshwaram (Tamil Nadu), or Dwarka (Gujarat) is complete unless the pilgrims bathe in the hallowed waters of Pushkar.

The lovely Pushkar Lake is a sacred site that is thought to be as old as creation and has been a pilgrimage site from time immemorial. It is encircled by 52 bathing ghats, where pilgrims with great religious faith come to take a soak. From the time of Rama, the hero of the earliest Hindu Epic Ramayana, to Fa-reports Hien’s of Pushkar in the 4th century AD, to the time of Muslim conquest, to the present day, Pushkar has stood the test of time.
