Daman and Diu, a union territory in western India, is divided into two parts by the Arabian Sea. The Daman Ganga River runs through Daman’s seaside town. Diu is a small island with a town on the mainland. The Moti Daman Fort, Diu Fort, and 16th-century churches all bear witness to the territory’s former status as a Portuguese colony. The Basilica of Bom Jesus Church in Moti Daman is notable for its golden altarpiece.
